Moving In or Out of Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill runs from Colfax Avenue south to 7th Avenue, and from Broadway east to Downing Street, with the State Capitol inside its boundaries. It began as a district of mansions built around the Capitol. As the city grew, many of those mansions were converted into apartments and condos or replaced by larger apartment buildings, and today Capitol Hill is the most densely populated neighborhood in the city. That history is exactly what makes moving here different.

Most Capitol Hill moves involve an apartment or condo: older walk-ups without elevators, converted mansions with narrow staircases, or newer buildings with elevator reservations and loading rules. Street parking fills early, and many blocks are lined with mature trees. Our office sits on Pennsylvania Street just north of Colfax, a few blocks away, and we also move neighbors in the Central Business District, Five Points, and Baker.

  • Apartment and Condo Movers: Walk-ups and elevator buildings alike. We plan the crew around the number of flights and send your building our certificate of insurance when it asks for one. See our residential moving service.
  • Historic Home Movers: Converted mansions and older homes get floor runners, padded banisters, and a pre-move consultation for any home built before 1950.
  • Piano Movers: Uprights and grands up and down walk-up stairs with the right boards and straps. See piano moving.
  • Packing Help: Full or fragile-only packing, usually the day before the move.
  • Office and Business Movers: Offices and storefronts along Colfax and beyond, with on-site estimates and a schedule built around your business hours. See commercial moving.
  • Short-Notice Moves: Found an apartment sooner than planned? Call us and we will check the schedule right away.

Ron Ferguson, owner of Abe Lincoln Movers“Capitol Hill moves come down to stairs and doorways. A lot of the buildings here went up long before anyone owned a sectional, so we measure the tight spots ahead of time and size the crew around the number of flights, not just the number of rooms.” Ron, Owner of Abe Lincoln Movers
